Description

This building, dating to 1625, is a commercial property located on Long Street. It was extensively altered in the mid to late 19th century. The building is two storeys with an attic, and comprises two bays each. It has a slate roof and colourwashed rendered frontages. The attic storey above the Castleton Stores has one box dormer, with a sash window to the left and a splayed bay window to the right. The ground floor features a round-headed doorway with a plain semi-circular fanlight and a six-panelled door at the left end. To the right is a later 19th-century to early 20th-century shop front with a half-glazed door, and a further splayed bay window with fascia and cornice. The premises occupied by 'M and E Centre' and 'Wenlock' have two gabled dormers. The first floor has two sash windows without glazing bars, while the ground floor contains two plate glass shop fronts. A half-glazed door is at the left end, and a round-headed doorway with a plain semi-circular fanlight and a four-panelled door is at the right end. The building forms a group value with nearby properties.
