Description

No 122 is a garden wall and railings located on the south side of Newland, dating from the later 19th century but likely incorporating an earlier 19th-century core. The building is two storeys high with three window bays and features a slate roof and a stuccoed front. It has two splayed bay windows at either end, one made of stone, and sash windows without glazing bars. A square glazed porch from the late 19th century or later is present, featuring a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight behind it.

The garden wall and railings are connected to the front of the house along the Long Street return. The wall is constructed of stone rubble with capping, while the railings are in a style from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century, suggesting they predate the later 19th-century appearance of the house. The railings have uprights with spear-headed finials and standards topped with urn finials. The uprights to the gate rise alternately to two different heights, and there are ashlar piers with capping.

No 122, along with its garden wall and railings, forms a group with The Yews, Kelston, St Kilda, the premises occupied by Castleton Store, the premises occupied by the "m and e" centre, and Wenlock on Long Street.
