Description
Mistletoe Cottage is a 17th-century building located on Long Street. It features a front dating from the 18th century and is two storeys high with an attic, comprising three window bays. The roof is covered with new plain tiles and includes one gabled dormer. The front is roughcast, and the windows have been altered to sash style without glazing bars. The building has rusticated quoin pilasters and a firmer shop window with fluted pilasters, although the fascia is missing on the right side of the ground floor.
A notable feature of Mistletoe Cottage is the late 18th-century doorcase, which includes small fluted pilasters and moulded console brackets that support a dentil cornice and pediment. The frieze above the doorway has diagonal enrichment, and there are ears of corn in relief on the sides of the brackets. Additionally, a small sprig of mistletoe is carved in the tympanum.
Mistletoe Cottage is part of a group that includes Digby Estate Nos 271 to 274 (consecutive), Wyekham Cottage, Fernleigh, The Shell, Fairfields, The Malt House, Eastfields, Tyndall, Linden, The Cottage, and Corner House.
