Description

Steps House is likely a late 16th- to early 17th-century detached house, probably originally a farmhouse. The walls are plastered, but the rear wall includes some visible timber framing, indicating the building may have originated as timber frame construction. The roof is hipped and thatched, with two brick stacks positioned near the ends. The house is two storeys high. The front entrance features a panelled door beneath a shallow pentice hood. On the ground floor, the right end has a 19th-century bay window with stone mullions and a hipped tiled roof. There are also two casement windows with glazing bars, and a third casement with bars in the upper panes. The first floor has three casement windows with glazing bars. A single-storey rear lean-to has a hipped slate roof. Inside, some of the ceiling beams are deeply chamfered with run-out stops. A coach house, located in the garden at the rear and likely dating from the 18th century, has walls that are partly timber framed and partly brick. It is topped with a hipped thatched roof and includes a timber-framed lean-to with a concrete tiled roof, and large timber doors.
