Description

A pair of semi-detached estate cottages, dated 1844, as indicated by the stone on the front wall, likely built for Sturt. The cottages are constructed of brick with hipped slate roofs and brick stacks, one central and one at the rear of each cottage. They are two storeys high. Each cottage has a shallow-pitched gabled porch with a glazed door set within a four-centred arch. The ground floor features a single casement window with glazing bars, set beneath a hoodmould and a gauged arch. On the first floor, there are two similar casement windows, also beneath gauged arches. Two-storied rear additions, matching the original construction, have been added to each cottage, along with single-storey extensions at the rear of the Old Bakehouse, one with a tiled roof. These later extensions potentially represent the original bakery.
