Description
The Old House is a detached house, probably dating from the 16th century. It features timber framed walls that are infilled and partially rebuilt, topped with a half hipped thatched roof. The house is oriented at right angles to the road and has one storey and an attic. The main entrance front, facing north, includes an added porch that is partly brick and partly open on timber posts, with a hipped tiled roof and a part glazed door.
On the ground floor, there is one casement window with lead lights, another with glazing bars, and two small plain casements. In the attic, there is one dormer with casements featuring glazing bars, along with one casement with lead lights located under the eaves. The house is designed in an open hall form, with a main roof constructed in a Queen-post style, showcasing smoke-blackened timbers.
One of the ground floor rooms contains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven. This room also features a deep chamfered and stopped ceiling beam, which has inscribed initials "WS". There are several other deep chamfered beams throughout the house. The central ground floor room has a 18th-century moulded timber fireplace surround.
