Description

Rose Lea is a detached cottage, likely dating from the early 17th century. It has timber frame construction with brick infill. The roof is thatched, with brick end stacks, and incorporates an attic space. The cottage is situated at a right angle to the road. The gable end facing the road has two casement windows on the ground floor, featuring glazing bars, and a horizontally sliding sash window in the attic with leaded lights. The rear elevation has a casement window with glazing bars, a horizontally sliding sash window with part glazing bars and part leaded lights on the ground floor. There is one dormer window in the attic with casement windows and glazing bars.

Inside, the main ground floor room contains a large fireplace, partially blocked. Several chamfered ceiling beams are also present. The roof space has not been inspected, but the cutting away of the main tie beam to create a doorway suggests the building may have originated as an open hall. A plank and muntin partition is located near the stair.
