Description

BEAMINSTER STORRIDGE HILL ST 40 SE 4/153 Storridge Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. Later C17. Stone and chalk rubble walls. Thatch roof with stone gable-copings. Renewed brick stacks at left and right hand gables. 2 storeys. 2 windows; all are 4-light stone mullions (ovolos) with continuous labels over. Metal casements. Separate labels to first floor. Single light mullion on west attic gable-end (ovolo). C20 atone rubble porch at centre with stone quoins. Pitch tile roof. Doorway with very depressed straight-chamfered lintel and jambs, being re-used material. Rear wing of main house, c. C18. Attached wing at right hand, incorporating former kitchen and stables. Rendered and rubble walls. Thatch roof, half-hipped at right hand. 2 storeys. 3 windows with wood framed casements. Door at adjoining end, wood with glass panels, C20. Right hand end has 2 oval straight-chamfered lights, now blocked. Source: R.C.H.M. Dorset I, p 26 (57).
