Description
The North Stables is a stable block built around 1670, featuring dressed stone walls and a stone slab roof with stone gable copings. It is a single-storey building with attics above. The south elevation has doorways at each end, both adorned with eared architraves, pulvinated friezes, and pediments above. Between these doorways are six windows designed with two lights and a mullion-and-transom layout, also featuring ovolo moulds and the same decorative elements as the doorways. The windows have cast-iron casements with multiple glazing bars and small panes. The doorways retain their original doors, and there is a pitch door on the east gable end that matches the architrave moulding. Inside, the west end contains a tack room with cobble flooring and a stone drain. The large stalls are partitioned with original posts that have moulded bases and capitals. A transverse staircase leads to the attics at the center of the building, and the roof construction is similar to that of the south range.
