Description

Whitcombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1700. It features brick walls laid in Flemish bond and has a slate roof with stone gable copings. The building has square stone stacks with cornices at both the left and right gables, along with stone flashings. It is two storeys high and has inserted 20th-century dormers. The windows are three-light stone mullions, which are square with beading, and the 19th-century cast-iron casements do not have labels. There are three tension bars that are scrolled to the first-floor windows. The front door is wooden with nine glass panels and dates from the 20th century, framed by a stone surround with similar beaded moulding and a simple open stone pediment. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut with stone gable copings and a rubble stone wall. The house has extensions at both the left and right ends, which include a dairy and granary. Inside, the farmhouse features flagstone floors. The fireplace at the east end has a wooden lintel with a slight chamfer that is stopped, while the stone fireplace at the west end has square jambs and a stone lintel above.
