Description

East Cottage is an attached house located in Beaminster on Whitcombe Road, dating from the early 19th century. The building features lias rubble walls set on a stone plinth and is topped with an asbestos slate roof that has a gable end facing East Street, complete with stone gable coping. There is a brick stack on the gable end that faces the lane.

The facade facing East Street is two storeys high and has three sash windows with glazing bars, framed in moulded wood, and has renewed wooden cills. A 20th-century dormer with a two-light casement and a hipped slate roof is also present. The front door, which is 20th-century, has a reeded surround and a panelled design.

On the side facing Whitcombe Road, the building consists of two sections from the 19th century, also two storeys with attics. This side has three windows on one section and two on the other, along with two dormers. A cast-iron balcony on the first floor, supported by iron posts, is located at the right end. The balcony features a wooden guard-rail and trellis work, topped with a flared pentice roof, and has French windows with marginal glazing that open onto it. This part of the building dates from the mid-19th century.
