Description

The Yews is a detached house located on Whitcombe Road in Beaminster, dating from the late 17th century. It features walls made of lias stone and a clay tile roof with stone gable copings. The house has two storeys and attics, with five windows that have two-light stone mullions with ovolos, and 19th-century iron casements that include two horizontal glazing bars each. There are two dormers with slate sides and two-light leaded casements topped with weatherboarded gables. The front door, which is now centrally located but was formerly positioned to the right of centre, is wooden and has four glass lights. A stone porch, recently moved from Yeovil and dating from the late 18th century, features Tuscan pilasters and columns supporting a plain Tuscan entablature with a flat tread roof. The south gable wall includes deep two-light mullions from the 19th century. Inside, the house has 17th-century mid-chamfered ceiling beams that are not visibly stopped, along with stone flags, some made of blue lias. There is an inserted stack and fireplace located to the left of centre.
