Description

The obelisk, dated 1727, is located 150 yards northwest of Thornhill House in Stalbridge. It is constructed of ashlar and stands on a stepped pedestal with a moulded cornice. The obelisk features a Latin inscription on its north side and is surrounded by spiked iron railings. It was erected in honor of George II and Queen Caroline. The original structure was destroyed in a gale in 1836 and was later rebuilt.
