Description

Stayners Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, or possibly earlier. It is constructed of coursed rubble with an asbestos slate roof, with stone stacks at the gable ends and to the left of the front door. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window front. The ground floor windows are 3-light casements from the 20th century with glazing bars, set under wooden lintels. Above are similar 2-light windows. A 20th-century glazed door is centrally positioned. The left gable features two 2-light windows with timber ovolo-moulded mullions. Original interior features include an oak door and surround with wrought iron strap hinges, featuring triple poppy-head finials. There are partially reset plank and muntin partitions, a wooden newel staircase, moulded ceiling beams, and various chamfered and moulded fireplaces. Nail-studded plank doors are also present. A staircase and central stack were likely inserted later, and a disused wall plate suggests that the eaves have been raised. This indicates that the house may be a 17th-century remodelling of an earlier building.
