Description
Blackmore Farm is a farmhouse likely originating in the 17th century, significantly remodelled and extended in the mid-18th century and later. The building is constructed of rubble and brick, with some rendered areas, and has a tiled roof with gable ends and brick stacks to the original range. It is two storeys high and comprises four bays in the original section. The windows are wooden casements with glazing bars; the ground floor has 3-light windows, and the first floor has 2-light windows. A flush-panel door in a moulded wooden frame, with a tiled hood supported on wooden brackets, is located in the second bay from the right, above which is a round, bulls-eye window. A 1-shaped brick extension, built with a distinctive Flemish bond brick pattern featuring flared headers, projects to the left, displaying a half-hipped gable and housing stables and storage rooms. A plat band runs along the front of this extension. Further north are a rubble and brick wing and 19th-century lean-tos. Inside, a deep, chamfered axial beam is visible. One room features 18th-century fielded panelling, complete with moulded skirting, a dado rail, and a cornice. The staircase has close strings, turned newels and balusters, and moulded handrails. Several 18th-century flush-panelled doors remain in their original frames. The farmhouse likely began as a 3-room plan in the 17th century, with a cross passage. A staircase was inserted into the cross passage, the eaves were raised, and the house was extended and altered in the 18th century.
