Description

Sturt Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof that includes one hipped end and one gable end. A 19th-century gabled wing projects to the right. The original part of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. It features 2-light windows flanked by 3-light stone mullioned windows, which have hollow chamfered mullions and surrounds. The left ground floor window has later wooden mullions and is set in the original opening, while the central window is a later addition that replaced the original doorway. All ground floor windows have square labels. The first floor windows are similar, but the central window is modern. To the right, there is a single bay from an 18th-century addition, which has a 3-light hollow chamfered stone mullioned window on the first floor. Below this window is a door with a four-centre head in a square surround, featuring moulded head and jambs. This door may have been relocated from the centre of the original range, and it is topped by a hood made from a single stone flag. Inside, the farmhouse has many deep chamfered beams, and one doorway features a chamfered head and chamfered shouldered jambs. Several windows have leaded lights secured with vertical iron bars.
