Description

Rodwell House Private Hotel is a hotel dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork, with a cream front wall, a red left gable, and a painted right gable, all topped with slate roofs. The building has an elegant front range with a parapet and two transverse hipped roofs, while the rear includes two lower wings that are likely contemporary with the main structure.

The hotel is three storeys tall and has four windows. The windows consist of 9-pane sashes above 15-pane sashes above 12-pane sashes, all with thin glazing bars and painted plain reveals, set under splayed brick voussoirs and with stone sills. The third bay's openings are blind, located above a six-panel door with a radial fanlight. A broad plat band separates the ground and first floors, and there is a moulded stone cornice with brick blocking and a stone parapet. No chimney stacks are visible.

The right gable end features a central gable peak with three 12-pane sashes, one of which lights a staircase. The attached wing has two similar sashes on each of its two floors. The left gable has one 15-pane sash on the first floor and a lean-to glazed timber conservatory. The rear wing has a concrete tile roof and two 9-pane above 12-pane sashes. The building stands somewhat isolated but is part of a small group of remaining earlier properties on this section of Rodwell Road.
