Description

The Former Commercial Hotel is a hotel built in the early to mid 19th century, with some alterations made over time. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring some sandstone dressings, and has a slate roof. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted plan with a rear wing and stands three storeys tall with three bays.

The central entrance has a round-headed doorway with a set-in doorcase supported by Tuscan columns and a dentilled cornice, along with a plain fanlight above. To the right, there is a "corner-shop" shop-front with a splayed doorway flanked by one window on each side, all set within a pilastered surround that includes a right-angled frieze and a dentilled cornice. The windows have raised sills and flat-arched heads made of gauged brick, with the left window of the door featuring altered glazing, while the upper floors have 4-pane sash windows.

The right-hand return wall has four windows, a round-headed doorway, and altered windows at the ground floor, with 4-pane sashes above. The interior of the building has also been altered.
