Description

The Rodwell is a mid-19th century public house situated on Rodwell Road in Weymouth. The main hipped range is set across a slope, descending to the north, and returns in a curved corner to Franchise Street and to Rodwell Street, incorporating the former building at No.9, Rodwell Street.

The building is constructed of stucco, with a slate roof. It has two storeys and four windows to the front. Plain sash windows are set within stone sills. Bay three features a broad arch over a glazed door, with external shutters and side lights with panels, beneath a large radial fanlight, all framed by a moulded architrave with a keystone. The curved corner to the left has six-pane sashes at each level, with a plain bay stepped down to a single-storey wall containing a doorway. A high, painted plinth slopes toward the pavement to the right. The return to Rodwell Street incorporates the former No.9, with a raking dormer. At first floor are two bowed oriels with 4:4:4-pane sashes, above deep plain sashes; a central arched opening leads to a four-panel door with fanlight. A rear eaves stack is visible to the front range, while a stack sits on the right gable of the former house unit. The interior has not been inspected.
