Description

The premises occupied by the South Western Dairies Ltd, established in 1796 as the Dorsetshire Brewery Co (Sherborne) Ltd, is located on Long Street and dates back to 1625. The older section of the building, which faces the road, is constructed of stone, while later additions at the back are made of brick. The east side of the building features four storeys with eight windows and an eight-bay arcade with segmental heads over the ground floor openings. Above this, there are fixed light windows arranged in segmental heads, with eight across and five deep. The south end has a doorway on each floor. The front of the building has irregular window arrangements and a parapet coping that is raised to create two segment shapes of different sizes. The premises are bordered by railings and a gate that enclose a garden to the west, with a wall and gateways to the east. This site is part of a group that includes Brewery Cottage, the premises occupied by the Slessor Club, Bute House, Brecon House, and a dwarf wall, with railings and gates to Brecon House.
