Description
Brecon House is a mid-19th century building of three storeys and a basement, located on Long Street. The building has three bays, with the westernmost bay set back. It has a hipped roof with overhanging bracketed eaves and is faced with ashlar. The windows are sash windows in reveals without glazing bars, each topped with a moulded stone arch. A trellised iron verandah extends across the westernmost bay, sheltering a two-panelled house door; a half-glazed entrance door leads to the basement. A rectangular bay window runs through all three storeys on the east-facing return. The building was formerly occupied by the South Western Dairies. Railings and a gate enclose the garden to the west, while a wall and gateways define the eastern boundary. Associated buildings include Brewery Cottage, the Slessor Club premises, Bute House, and a dwarf wall. The railings and gates at Brecon House contribute to a group of buildings of group value.
