Description

Cromwell House, Belmont, Wistaria House, and the dwarf walls and railings are early to mid 19th century buildings located on Long Street. They are two storeys high with an attic and feature slate roofs. Cromwell House has a façade with three windows across six bays, two segmental box dormers, and a rendered front. It has long and short quoins, overhanging eaves supported by stone brackets, and dentil moulded eaves. The sash windows are set in reveals, with glazing bars intact only in the upper right-hand window. The windows have plain architraves, keystones, and moulded cornices, while the central first-floor window is topped with a moulded triangular pediment on cut brackets. The rectangular doorcase features pilasters and an entablature, with a round-headed doorway that has a six flush panelled door.

Belmont and Wistaria House each have two window bays with ashlar fronts and flat pilasters between them. They also have two segmental box dormers each. The outer sash windows are three panes wide, while the inner windows are four panes wide, both with keystones. The stone doorways are adorned with Tuscan pilasters, entablatures, rectangular fanlights, and six moulded panelled doors. The 19th-century dwarf walls are faced with red brick and topped with stone capping, and there are ashlar piers with peaked capping. The property is enclosed by railings.

The premises are occupied by Mr. E. J. T. Rogers and include the Congregational Chapel, dwarf wall, railings, and gates to the Congregational Chapel, as well as a school room to the south of the chapel. Cromwell House, Belmont, Wistaria House, and the dwarf walls and railings, along with Thorn Bank, form a group.
