Description
The Congregational Chapel, dated 1803 and opened in 1804, was enlarged in 1814 and 1821. The current south front, which dates from 1821, features a stucco gable end outlined by a moulded parapet coping and string. The design includes traceried panel treatments on the quoin pilasters and two large traceried windows in an early Gothic Revival style. In the center, there is a circular enriched panel displaying the dates. The front also has two elaborate Gothic-style doorways with pointed heads, carved spandrels, and shafted pilasters, along with enriched door panels. The side elevations are adorned with "Churchwarden" Gothic windows that have oval lights above. At the north end of the roof, there is a square bell cupola. The south front is set back behind a graveyard. The premises are occupied by Mr. E. J. T. Rogers and include a dwarf wall, railings, and gates to the Congregational Chapel, as well as a school room to the south, along with nearby properties such as Cromwell, Belmont, Wistaria House, and Thorn Bank, which form a group.
