Description
Emerenciana is an L-shaped building located on the north-east side of Coombe, dating from the 16th century. It incorporates medieval masonry, likely from the Church of St Emerenciana, which had fallen down by the 16th century according to Leland. The building features a chamfered projecting course of eaves and a pointed stone doorway from the 14th or 15th century, which has a modern wrought iron gate. The north wing has been re-roofed with tiles. The gable end facing the road has a blocked 2-light window that dates back to the 14th century. The main front of the building, which is at right angles to the road, is two stories high and has wooden casements. The further end of the building is likely from the 17th century and previously had lead glazing in the casements. Saint Emerenciana is mentioned in the Sherborne Missal.
