Description

Barton Farmhouse, Dairy Cottage, and Outbuildings are located on Yeovil Road and date from the 18th century. The east end of the farmhouse stands above road level and features two storeys and attics, with a rendered and roughcast front consisting of three window bays. The roof is made of stone slates arranged in diminishing courses and includes two gabled dormers and brick chimneys. The wood casements are complemented by a later glazed porch. To the left of the porch, there are three window bays set against a stone rubble wall, which also divides the front garden at this point.

The west end of Barton Farmhouse is older, projecting forward, and may date back to the 16th century. This section includes Barton Farm Cottage, which has a projecting wing with a steep thatched roof and stone slates at the eaves, featuring two window bays facing Yeovil Road. Between this wing and the eastern range of Barton Farmhouse is a one-storey block with a pantile roof and a stone buttress with weathering, accompanied by an outshut to the left of the buttress and a three-light casement to the right.

To the rear of Barton Farm Cottage, there is a wing made of stone rubble with a hipped thatch roof and a ground floor opening. Further west, there is a lower wing with a plaintile roof and a half-hipped gable end.

Barton Farmhouse, Barton Farm Cottage, the garden wall to Barton Farmhouse, Cliff House, Smithy, Rosemary Cottage, Ryme Cottage, and the east and west wings of Floracre form a cohesive group. They also group with the outbuilding immediately to the north, the cartshed to the west of Barton Farmhouse, and the outbuildings to the rear of Barton Farm Yard.
