Description

Cliff House is a building that dates from the early to mid 19th century. Until the late 1960s, it was the home of the King family, who owned the adjacent smithy. The house features a low addition with a tiled roof and a single window bay on the left side. It has a slate gabled roof and sash windows with moulded architraves, retaining their glazing bars. A notable feature is the striking wrought iron trellis and cresting on the stone porch, created by Mr. King around 1840. The King family has been associated with smithing in the area for several hundred years, and in 1970, Mr. King's grandson still occupied the adjoining smithy. Cliff House is part of a group that includes Barton Farmhouse, Barton Farm Cottage, the garden wall to Barton Farmhouse, the Smithy, Rosemary Cottage, Ryme Cottage, and the east and west wings of Floracre.
