Description

Matravers House is a farmhouse that is attached to cottages, dating from the late 18th century, with a 19th-century north wing. The building features rubble-stone walls and a thatched roof, which has stone gable copings and level kneelers. There are brick stacks at each gable end. The house is two storeys high and has three windows, which are 20th-century three-light wooden casements with glazing bars and wooden cills. Above the windows, there are original stone voussoirs. The front door is centrally located and is a plank door with two lights, dating from the 19th century, and it has a thatched porch canopy supported by two wooden brackets.

Inside, there is an open fireplace with stone jambs in the west gable end, featuring a wooden lintel that dates to around the 18th century. At the rear, there is a range that forms a right angle with the main house, which is No. 1 Matravers. This part is from the 19th century, has dressed stone walls, and a slate roof. It includes a brick stack at the end gable with a 20th-century top, is also two storeys high, and has two windows that are two-light wood casements with glazing bars, which have been repaired. The wood cills and stone lintels are present as well.
