Description
Briar Thatch is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of Isle of Wight stone rubble with brick quoins, all of which are now painted. The building features a half-hipped thatched roof with end brick chimneystacks. It has two storeys, with two windows and one window space, featuring 16-pane sashes; the ground floor sashes have cambered head linings. The central doorcase is adorned with reeded architrave and a six-fielded panelled door, with the top two panels being glazed. The central section of the house appears to be a mid-19th century link building with a slate roof. The rear part of the building is one and a half storeys high, made of stone rubble and rendered, with a thatched roof that includes an end chimneystack and an eyebrow dormer with a casement window. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace. The house is shown on a map from 1793.
