Description

MAPPOWDER MAPPOWDER: ST 70 NW VILLAGE 8/97 Gate piers approx l0m east of Mappowder Court together with walls and piers to north and south of courtyard. 4.10.60 GV II Gate piers, C1800. Monolithic stone carved to represent rusticated ashlar. Plinths; moulded caps surmounted by busts representing moors. Walls flanking courtyard of coursed squared rubble with moulded copings. Gate piers in part of brick and in part of stone. Moulded caps with some ball finials. South gate is of wrought iron. "RCHM, Dorset vol III", p 147, no 3.
