Description
Mappowder Court is a country house dating from the mid-18th century, although it incorporates parts of a 17th-century structure. The building features coursed, squared rubble, some of which is rendered, with squared rubble dressings. It has stone slated roofs with gable ends and stone copings, and an L-shaped plan.
The east facade is symmetrical, with two storeys and three bays. The windows appear to be of 17th-century origin, with the ground floor featuring two five-light stone mullioned and transomed windows that have square heads and hollow chamfers. There is a central ashlar porch with an open pediment and pilasters, leading to a round-headed recessed doorway with a fanlight. The upper floor contains three four-light square-headed mullioned windows, also with hollow chamfers. The building has a moulded plinth, and other facades include several square-headed stone mullion windows with labels. Notably, the west gable features an 18th-century lunette window.
Inside, there are several fireplaces with four-centred heads and an 18th-century staircase that has close strings, square balusters, moulded oak handrails, and turned newel posts.
