Description

The War Memorial in Maiden Newton was designed by E S Prior and completed in 1920. It commemorates those who fell in the First World War, with additional names from the Second World War. The memorial is made of Portland stone and features a three-sided plinth topped by a six-sided obelisk. At the junction of the plinth and obelisk, there are carvings of a wreath and the words "VICTORY," "SACRIFICE," and "HOPE" alongside a cross. The obelisk has two bands: the top band is inscribed with the years 1914 to 1919, while the lower band reads, "NOT UNTO US LORD BE THE PRAISE 1920."
