Description
Maiden Newton School is a former Victorian school building dating from 1841, with enlargements made in 1865 and 1870. It features rubble-stone walls, a stone plinth, and quoins, topped with a slate roof that has stone gable-copings. The building is single-storey, with a left-hand gabled wing that includes a tall three-light stone mullioned window with a transom and a separate label. The main range to the right has two narrow windows and another three-light stone mullioned window. A central porch, which is under a stone gable-coping, has a four-centred moulded archway with a label. An elaborate cast iron bracket on the front of the porch supports a circular two-faced clock, which was installed to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
