Description

Poplar Farm, which includes an attached barn to the north, dates from the late 18th century and was enlarged in the 19th century. The building features brick walls, some of which are rendered, and has a dentil cornice at the eaves, with tiled roofs and brick stacks. It is two storeys tall with attics. The main front range is from the 18th century, while a projecting rear wing at the west end is slightly later and may have originally served as service rooms. A 19th-century addition, which now serves as the kitchen, is located to the east of this wing. The front elevation is rendered and features two casement windows with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors, along with a plat band at the first-floor level. The entrance is located in the west elevation, accessed through a brick porch with a gabled tiled roof and a part-glazed door. The ground floor has two additional casement windows, while the first floor and attic each contain one similar window. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to with brick walls and a corrugated asbestos roof. Inside the front range, some exposed ceiling beams can be seen on the ground floor. The 19th-century kitchen includes a bread oven. North of the kitchen, the attached barn has brick walls and a thatched roof, featuring large openings on the west side that are now used as a garage.
