Description

Poplar Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 18th-century farmhouse, with later additions and alterations. It is located in Grafton and Radcot. The main range comprises three bays, with a lower range attached to the left. The farmhouse is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble, with stone slate roofs. The front has three windows; these are 3-light casements from the 19th century, positioned directly below the eaves on the first floor. The central entrance has a half-glazed 19th-century door and a wooden lintel. Integral end stacks have shafts rebuilt in red brick, the left stack retaining its original stone base and a moulded dripstone. The left range features smaller 19th-century casements, with a red brick ridge stack to its left. A short gabled range, projecting at right angles to the rear of the main range, is located on the right. A lean-to roof connects this range to a former stable block, found at the junction between the ranges. The stable block dates to the mid-to-late 18th century and is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble with a hipped corrugated iron roof. The stable block has a wide entrance with a wooden lintel at its centre. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey in May 1987, but is thought to be of interest.
