Description

Manor Farmhouse, originally known as The Manor, is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, with extensions made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble and features alternating angle quoins, topped with a machine tile roof.

The original structure is a basic U-plan, which was modified by the 20th-century additions. It consists of a two-unit wain range with a long gabled range at right angles to the rear on the right, which has different roof pitches. There is also another gabled range at right angles to this, running parallel with the main range. The 20th-century addition to the right of the main range and a contemporary flat-roofed extension at the rear are not of special architectural interest.

The farmhouse has three storeys and a gable-lit attic. The main range features two 19th-century three-light casement windows with wooden lintels on each floor. There is an integral end stack with a dripstone on the left and another stack on the right at the junction with the 20th-century addition, which has been rebuilt but retains its dripstone. The back wall includes a leaded four-light chamfered wooden mullion window. Additionally, there is a semi-circular stone-capped bread oven projection on the gable end of the range that is at right angles to the rear.

Inside, the right ground-floor room of the main range has an inglenook fireplace with a stop-chamfered wooden lintel. There is a winder staircase to the right and a chamfered spine beam with a stepped ogee stop. Similar spine beams can be found in the ground-floor rooms. The rear has a remodelled open fireplace with a bread oven. On the first floor, there are wide floorboards, a stepped stack at the rear, chamfered spine beams in the front rooms, and parts of the collar truss roof structure are visible.
