Description
1 and 2 Widford Cottages are a pair of houses that were originally built in the mid to late 18th century and later extended in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble, with the addition featuring more regularly coursed stone, and they have a machine tile roof. The original two-unit plan was extended by a similar length in the early 19th century.
Each cottage is two storeys high. A straight joint can be seen immediately to the left of the ridge stack, indicating the extension. Each cottage has a 19th-century casement window on both floors, positioned to the left and right of a central boarded door. The right cottage has wood lintels above the windows, while the left cottage has rendered lintels. There is a central ridge stack with a dripstone and red brick capping, along with an integral end stack featuring a red brick shaft on the left.
Inside, the left room of the right cottage has a chamfered spine beam. The right room of the left cottage includes a straight-flight staircase, a chamfered cross-beam, and an infilled inglenook fireplace in the left room.
