Description

Poplar Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with extensions made in the early to mid-18th century, along with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof that is hipped to the left. The original part of the house consists of three bays, which was extended by one bay to the left in the 18th century.

The building has two storeys, with blazing bar sash windows located directly below the eaves—one on the left and three on the original part. The 18th-century extension has a 16-paned glazing bar sash window on the ground floor, along with another window that has a cambered head to the right of the original part. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed open projection to the left of the house, which features a 20th-century French window flanked by casements. To the left, there is a doorway with a small casement, likely where an end stack was previously located, and a straight joint can be seen below it. Additionally, there is a 16-paned glazing bar sash window on each floor of the left wall, and a lean-to structure at the rear.

The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in May 1987, but it was noted to have chamfered spine beams in the ground-floor rooms.
