Description

Forge House is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble, with a stone slate roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with a gabled wing to the rear on the left side. It has two storeys and a gable-lit attic. The front facade is slightly asymmetrical, featuring two windows. It has 3-light casement windows with stepped, ogee-stopped, chamfered wood lintels. A doorway has been infilled and replaced with a casement window in the center of the front. Three late 20th-century roof-lights are present. Integral end stacks have dripstones and rendered red brick shafts. The eaves show tie beam ends. During a resurvey in May 1987, the interior was not inspected, though the right-hand ground-floor room was noted to contain panelled window shutters, chamfered ceiling beams, and inglenook fireplaces in both ground-floor rooms of the main range. Twentieth-century gabled additions to the right and in the angle to the rear on the right side are not of special architectural interest. The building is included for group value.
