Description

Blackthorn Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century to early 18th century, with a slightly later 18th-century extension on the right. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with the original section featuring a thatched roof and flanking chimneys—stone on the left and brick on the right. The extension has a stone slate roof. The building is one and a half to two storeys high.

The two earlier bays on the left have wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and 20th-century wooden lintels on the ground floor; the left window has four lights, while the right has three lights. Above these are older three-light casements that slightly break into the thatch, with some made of cast iron and others with leaded glazing. There is a small leaded stair window to the left, aligned with the stack. The central entrance features a flush-panelled door topped by a 20th-century gabled hood supported by wooden brackets.

The slightly lower extension to the right is one storey with an attic and has two bays. The ground floor is irregular, with an old three-light wood and metal casement on the left, a 20th-century two-light wooden casement in a blocked central doorway, and an old boarded door with a blocked opening on the right. All these openings have wooden lintels. The upper storey includes two 19th to 20th-century gabled eaves-line dormers with three-light wooden casements and a small central skylight.
