Description

Bampton House is a house from the early 19th century, constructed of limestone with an ashlar front and coursed rubble on the rest of the structure. It features a hipped slate roof and has flanking chimneys made of ashlar and rendered materials. The building has a square plan and includes a former service wing that is set back to the right.

The house is two storeys high and has three bays. It has a plinth, a band course at the first floor, and a slender wooden eaves cornice with small modillions. The outer bays on the ground floor contain tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, topped by segmental stone arches. The first floor features three-pane sash windows. The central entrance has double doors, each with three panels, and is adorned with a semi-circular radiating fanlight and a wooden doorcase. The doorcase is topped with an open pediment supported by carved scroll brackets, and the entrance is accessed by four stone steps.

On the left side of the main block, there are four three-pane sash windows on the first floor, along with a 19th-century canted bay window below on the left. The right side has a lower two-storey service wing that includes tripartite sashes in the left bay and on the first floor to the right, a two-light wooden casement in the centre of the first floor, and 20th-century garage openings on the ground floor to the right. At the rear of the main block, there is a Venetian window with sashes.
