Description

Old Barn Cottage is a cottage, dated 1660 according to a worn date stone on the chimney. It is constructed of brick and cob walls with a thatched roof and brick stacks. Originally a 2-room plan with end chimney stacks, a later extension was added to the east. A modern thatched wing exists at the rear, and a lean-to addition with a corrugated asbestos roof is located on the west side. The front wall is buttressed. The cottage has one storey and attics. A modern panelled entrance door is present, alongside four casement windows with glazing bars, one featuring cast iron lights. Three half-dormers with casements are in the attic, along with a small window under the eaves. The interior features exposed chamfered ceiling beams on the ground floor and a large open fireplace with the remains of a bread oven.
