Description

The Parish Church of St Laurence is a church with origins dating back to the 13th century, which was enlarged in the 15th century and restored in the 19th century. The walls are a combination of stone and flint, with plaster on the inside. The church features slate roofs, with stone slates on the porch. It has a nave consisting of three bays, a chancel, a north aisle, a west tower, and a south porch. The nave and chancel are from the 13th century, the porch is from the 14th century, and the aisle and tower were added in the 15th century. The chancel was partially rebuilt around 1400 and again in the 19th century.

The tower has three stages and is decorated with a stone and flint chequer pattern on the walls. It features a parapet with buttresses and pinnacles, along with a square angle stair turret that rises above the main parapet level. Most of the windows are from the 15th century, characterized by square heads and ogee tracery. A notable feature is the 13th-century south door, which has a cusped arch and carved heads as dripstones in the spandrils.

Inside, all the roof timbers were renewed in the 19th century. There is a fine 15th-century north arcade and a 13th-century font located in the north aisle. The church also contains an early 16th-century carved oak pulpit and bench ends, as well as a screen in the aisle made from fragments of a former medieval rood screen. Additionally, there is a significant 18th-century monument on the north wall of the chancel.
