Description

North Barn was built in 1802, as noted in the diary of James Frampton. The barn features cob walls resting on a brick base and has a thatched roof. It has projecting porches on each long wall; the southeast porch is roofed as a lean-to that continues the slope of the main roof, while the northwest porch has a hipped roof. The barn includes timber ledged doors and slit vent openings that are formed in the cob without brick surrounds. At the southeast end, there is a lower addition, also made of cob and thatch. Inside, the roof is constructed with collar beams and has curved braces under the collars. The barn is set within an enclosure that is bounded by a cob wall topped with tiles, making it a good unspoiled example of its type.
