Description

Second World War memorial in the Garden of Peace.

DESCRIPTION: it is a three-sided structure, constructed of brick and timber with a plain clay tile pitched roof, in the form of a shelter. There are vine carvings to the bargeboards of the gabled roof. It has an open doorway with a pointed-arched head and incised spandrels; the dates 1939 and 1945 are inscribed on the horizontal rail above. To either side of the doorway is a stone tablet listing the names of the seven men who died. Inside, on the back wall is a wooden sculpture of the Crucifixion by Loughnan Pendred. It rests on a stone base which is inscribed: THY SIN IS MY PAIN.
