Description
Cowgrove Farm House is a building likely originating from the 18th century, with alterations and enlargements made in the 19th century. It has a T-shaped plan, with the front range dating from the mid to late 19th century and the rear wing being the original small farmhouse from the 18th century. The front range features rendered walls and a tiled roof with bracketed eaves and rendered stacks. It is two storeys high and has a flat-roofed porch supported by classical columns. The entrance includes a part-glazed door, flanked by narrow double-hung sash windows. The ground floor also has two canted bay windows with double-hung sashes. On the first floor, there are three double-hung sash windows, all with centre glazing bars.
The earlier rear wing has brick walls, rendered on the north side, and a tiled roof with a rendered stack. This section is also two storeys high with attics. The main south elevation features a porch with a gabled roof and a moulded brick parapet. The ground floor has two modern casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, while the first floor has three casement windows with glazing bars and a plat band at the first floor level. The attic includes two hipped dormers with similar casements. Inside the earlier wing, the main ground floor room has a large fireplace that is now built up. The staircase in the 19th-century range has moulded balusters, a cut string with spandril brackets, and a wreathed handrail. Additionally, there is a lead pump on the end wall of the earlier wing, dated 1864.
