Description

The Elms is a farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century to the 18th century for the rear range, while the front range is from the mid-18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. The front range is rendered and features painted rusticated quoins. It has a 19th-century tiled roof with coped gable parapets and an 18th-century brick external stack on the left return side. The rear range consists of thin timber framing with infill and some underbuilding of whitewashed brick, topped with an old and 20th-century tiled roof, along with 20th-century brick ridge and internal stacks.

The building is L-shaped, with a wing on the left extending to the rear. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a symmetrical three-window front. The entrance features a 19th-century half-glazed moulded six-panelled door with an overlight that has glazing bars, flanked by fluted wood pilasters. An open porch with a flat roof and cast-iron uprights leads to the door. Above the entrance is a 16-pane sash window with a rendered flat arch and keyblock. The mid to late 19th-century two-storey bay windows have wood cross windows with a horizontal glazing bar and flat roofs. There is a small ground floor light on the left and a cornice with paired painted wood modillions.

The right return side includes an attic cross window, while the two-window timber-framed range features a central mid-19th-century moulded four-panelled door set in a moulded wood surround, with a 19th-century trellis porch. Above this door is a 20th-century two-light casement. There is an old cross window to the right, and a two-light casement above it, both with glazing bars. The rear displays exposed brick infill. The interior has not been inspected.
