Description
Marton Bridge is a bridge over the River Leam, built in the 15th century with later alterations. It was widened in the mid-20th century and altered and partly reconstructed in 2000.
The bridge features long approaches and has two spans over the river, along with a flood-arch on either side. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and has segmental-pointed arches of two splayed orders over the stream, with the splays extending to the cutwater and the abutments, which are also splayed to match the cutwater. The flood-arches are similar to those over the stream and have been treated in the same way, with their abutments splayed. The low parapet wall shows signs of periodic rebuilding, with part of the west side constructed in red brick.
