Description
Bowerhill Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century for the rear wing and the early 19th century for the front range, with additions made around 1920. The front range is constructed of ashlar stone and features a two-span hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. The rear wing is made of rubblestone and also has a Welsh slate roof with coped verges and saddlestones, along with ashlar stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two stories tall with four windows.
The entrance is located in a rusticated porch and verandah added around 1920, with French windows on either side that have fanlights in semi-circular arched openings. There are three French windows leading to a stone balcony, which are framed by moulded architraves. To the right, there is a two-storey extension from around 1920 that features the same style of French windows. The roof has deep eaves supported by wooden brackets.
On the left side of the building, there are four segmental-headed 18-pane sash windows with keystones, a plat band at the first floor, and four 12-pane sash windows. The rear rubblestone wing has two stories and an attic, with a central door that has a segmental head and keystone, flanked by 12-pane sash windows. The first floor features a 12-pane sash window on the left and a segmental-headed 12-pane sash window with a wrought iron balcony on the right gable. The rear of the building is made of rubblestone and has various sashes on the service wing, along with a stone dovecote on the rear wall of the 18th-century range.
Inside, the entrance hall has semi-circular arched openings, and the doorcases are reeded with paterae. There are marble fireplaces in the front rooms. The rear 18th-century range is closed off. There are also attached outbuildings at the rear, dating from around 1920.
