Description

The Old Forge is a detached house that likely dates from the 18th century and incorporates a former forge. It features plastered walls and a slate roof with very deep eaves on the garden front. The building is two storeys high and has brick stacks. A pedimented timber porch with a round-arched doorway is set in a very simple classical surround, above which is a carved stone quatrefoil panel that may be medieval. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has three similar casements. There is a 20th-century timber porch extension at the left end. The elevation facing the road has a roof that extends down to the window head level of the ground floor, featuring three casements with glazing bars, two of which are shallow bays. Inside, the main ground floor room includes a large open fireplace with a timber lintel, stone jambs, and a bread oven. The former forge is located in the section adjoining the road.
