Description

The Grange is a villa-type house dating from the early 19th century. It features a front wall made of hamstone ashlar, while the side walls are plastered and the rear wall is brick. The house has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with deeply overhanging bracketed eaves and plastered stacks near the center. It has a double-pile plan and stands two storeys tall with attics.

The entrance boasts a raised panelled double door with a semi-circular fanlight, situated in an open portico supported by Roman Doric columns and topped with a flat entablature. The ground floor includes two simplified Venetian-type windows set in round-headed recesses with two orders. On the first floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars, all under gauged arches. Shallow pilasters are positioned near the ends of the facade and flanking the portico, along with a plat band at the first-floor cill level. A 19th-century canted bay window is present in the right side wall.

At the rear, there is a lower service block with plastered walls and a hipped slate roof. Inside, the main staircase is made of stone and cantilevered around an open well, featuring ornamental iron balusters. The interior also includes some contemporary marble fireplace surrounds and joinery, such as panelled doors and window shutters with planted mouldings. This building is recognized as a good example of a Regency house.
